Based out of the weavers’ heart of India, Benaras, textile brand Veave’s Studio launched its new collection of sustainable home furnishing products called Teori Living in New Delhi. This chic line of products includes cushion covers, table mats, table runners and tissue boxes.
Teori Living (‘teori’ in Japanese means ‘handwoven’) is developed using sustainably sourced fabrics and is inspired by the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi. However, they have also utilized indigenous Indian weaving techniques keeping with its own tradition of promoting the weaving community of India and their handwork. With this brand new handcrafted collection, consumers here will be introduced to the concept of Wabi-Sabi for the first time in home furnishing segment.

What is Wabi-Sabi?
Derived from the Buddhist teaching of the three marks of existence — impermanence, suffering and emptiness or absence of self-nature, the characteristics of the wabi-sabi aesthetic mainly include asymmetry, simplicity, austerity, modesty, and appreciation of natural objects and processes.
With a shift in perspective from our constant chase of perfection to one that appreciates what is, Wabi-Sabi lets one decide how it can fit into their life. One might accept their flaws, make peace with the not-so-good experiences in life, have gratitude for what life has given them, or find beauty in ordinary stuff around them. In terms of aesthetics, Wabi-Sabi is a world view centred on the acceptance of transience and imperfection.

What’s different with Veaves’ Studio?
Defining this as form, function, quality and sustainability in its newest collection, Veaves’ Studio had made sure to maintain the uniqueness of their products, as no two sets of the home furnishing line will ever be the same. This will allow the consumers to bring a uniqueness to the overall look and feel of their homes. Besides this, Veave’s Studio will be providing jobs to the traditional Indian weavers and inspire people to contribute to this cause.
With the home furnishing market already reaching its peak, the brand was compelled to push for a more sustainable world.
Vatsala Chopra, Founder of Veave’s Studio says, “We wanted to start a collection of home furnishing products that are more mindful about sustainability. This, for us, means looking at every fiber, every seed and every dye and seeing how we can make it better. We don’t want sustainability to be our edge; we want it to be universal. And seeing how Wabi-Sabi also embraces the concept of sustainable living, we naturally decided to balance it with our conviction to keep alive the traditional Indian weaving techniques.”

Where can you find their products?
You can purchase the new line of home furnishing products in person from their store in Benaras, or you can buy them from the brand’s website here. Veaves’ Studio is planning to launch showrooms in Delhi soon, followed by other metro cities.
